The Active and Loud Cockatoo
When a Parrot is happy, you will see a lot of preening, dancing, playing with toys, talking, etc. Often something will trigger a burst of energy. In the video below, Peaches was sitting around enjoying a baseball game on TV and decided to start exercising, something she has seen me do in the past and we usually count to ten. Notice how she “counts” (though it doesn’t sound like numbers) each time she sways back and forth. At about 20 sec. , a fly passes too close to her tray and she reacts, then gets back to exercising.
* Keep in mind how loud a Moluccan Cockatoo can be, especially if there is a sleeping baby in the house!

Turn Off the Light!!!
Often a Parrot will get so set in his ways, they don’t hesitate to tell you if you are forgetting to do something.
Our nightly ritual is, when weather permits, one or the other of the Moluccan Cockatoo or Eclectus gets to sit outside on the deck and watch the sun go down. When it turns to dusk, they start getting antsy and pointing into the house or just saying “OUT!”
Once inside, they get some type of treat, usually a small piece of cheddar cheese. Not American, not Mozzarella, not even the very mild cheddar. If it’s not sharp cheddar for Peaches she throws in to the bottom of her cage and asks for more.
Once the sun goes down Peaches, especially, is very ready for bed. If she’s in the living room sitting on her tray, she repeats either “Peek A Boo” or “Go Bye-Bye” over and over and points to the kitchen until you take her to her cage.
Heaven forbid you forget to turn the light off. Get settled into the couch with the blanket over you and the laptop fired up and there is another repeated flurry of “Peek A Boos”.
I feel that she likes her privacy so the top of her cage gets draped with a large sheet. All blinds are shut tight and lights are off.
Finally peace and quiet. Usually until 7- 8 AM.
